Grit aids their digestion because it acts as the hens ‘teeth’ in the crop to grind up the food.
Poultry should always have access to grit and shell especially if they are confined in a run or indoors.
Laying Oyster Shell will help the hens to form good shells on their eggs and supplies them with a source of calcium.
Hens that get too little calcium will lay thin-shelled eggs that will be prone to breakage.
Egg shells are made of calcium carbonate, the same as found in oyster shells.
When fed to egg laying hens it improves the quality of the eggshell.
